Well just got back from listening to the band. Pete stuck to his Tele Deluxe re-issue and didn't get the LP out as he'd threatened. Keith used a Root Beer LP and a cherry red SG - interesting to see the latter kitted out with a Rivera amp too. They ran through a set that included Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love", Floyd's "Brick in the Wall Pt 2" and Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down". Pleasant enough stuff to get a predominantly 40+ audience up on their feet on a Friday afternoon. Keith wants a couple of guitars looking at too, so a useful contact made in all that.

Well, not really. Just a vague reference to the hour spent yesterday afternoon with one of the guys from work playing guitar. He'd come to collect his rather worn 90s Gibson Les Paul. I do a bit of work on guitars on the quiet (mostly on my own) and he'd asked me to do a set-up on it - probably more desperately need than any other guitar I've had my hands on. He seemed pleased enough with the end result and even threatened to play it at a gig this afternoon.

Most of the rest of the afternoon just went to prove what an awful guitarist I am in comparison to anyone that actually tries a little bit - must learn to put a little more effort in. Still, at least I managed to pick up the basic chords for Hendrix' "Hey Joe".

Here's a picture of that Les Paul though. Apparently it used to be wine red, but it's been refinished at some point.

There are times you know, when you'd find it difficult to believe that you were sitting in one of the worlds hottest countries. Despite it being the middle of April, the last few days have seen some seriously wet weather. Right now, as it's done for the last few days, we're in the middle of a torrential downpour; lighting, thunder, wind and water, all combined with the local speciality, sand. Admittedly very fine sand, but it turns everything brown and scummy, and gets into everything.

On a more positive note, I've sorted out the pick-up selector switch on the Tokai, so I don't get drop outs when the neck humbucker is selected. I've got it tuned in drop-D at the moment whilst I learn the Foo Fighter's 'Everlong' - a good fun song that and well worth the effort. Must be an easy one though as I can play it whilst I'm standing up which is not what I normally do.

Interesting, I now think we have a river outside the front door. Anyone got a paddle?
